- The child of U.S. citizenship sponsors the parent (IR-5).
- Sponsoring a parent to come to the U.S. for reunification, also known as IR-5. This is a program that allows U.S. citizens to sponsor their parents to settle and live in the United States.
IR-5 PARENTAL SPONSORSHIP CONDITIONS
- The sponsor must be a U.S. citizen and over the age of 21
- The sponsor must demonstrate sufficient financial ability: have a stable income level and ensure that the financial sponsorship conditions for the parents are met. If you are unable to qualify for financial sponsorship, you can find a co-sponsor (be it a brother, spouse, friend, or anyone who can sign to co-sponsor).
- The guarantor and the sponsored person must prove a family relationship with each other.
IR-5 PARENTAL SPONSORSHIP PERIOD
- The IR-5 guarantee period is about 8 to 18 months depending on the different petitions.
- Permanent residents sponsor spouses and single children under the age of 21 (F-2A).
- A spouse-sponsored green card, also known as an F-2A, allows permanent residents to sponsor spouses and children under the age of 21 to reunite in the United States.
Guarantee period:
- The current F-2A sponsorship period is from 10 months to 30 months depending on the status of the Consulate’s application and will be updated monthly visa schedule.
Guarantee conditions:
- U.S. Green Card Sponsor
- Have a legal marriage certificate
- The sponsor must demonstrate sufficient financial ability: have a stable income level and ensure that the financial sponsorship conditions for the parents are met. - Permanent resident parents sponsor single children over the age of 21 (F-2B): A U.S. permanent resident parent sponsoring a single child over the age of 21 accompanied by a child under the age of 21 of an F-2B sponsor.
Guarantee period:
– The bail period of the F-2B category is from 7 to 8 years.
Guarantee conditions:
– A parent with a U.S. green card.
– The child is over 21 and is single.
– If the sponsored child has a stepchild under the age of 21 (i.e. the sponsor’s grandchild) will be allowed to sponsor with him.
– The child is over 21 and is single.

Note: Permanent residents can only sponsor single children above and under the age of 21, so if during the sponsorship process, the marriage registration will be canceled.
4. A U.S. citizen parent legally sponsors a married child (with a spouse and children under the age of 21) (F-3).
– F-3 sponsorship is a category for married children of U.S. citizens. The F-3 category allows sponsorship with the sponsor’s spouse and children under the age of 21.
Guarantee period:
– The bail period of the F-3 category is from 12 to 14 years.
Guarantee conditions:
– Parents with U.S. citizenship
– Sponsored persons (Vietnamese applicants): Married and children under 21 years old will have the right to accompany them to the US.
Note: If during the F-3 petitioning process, the petitioner divorces, the petition moves to F-1 (single child sponsorship).

5. A U.S. citizen sponsoring the sponsor’s sibling (F-4).
– F-4 sponsorship allows U.S. citizens to sponsor you to settle and live in the U.S.
Guarantee conditions:
– The petitioner is 21 years of age or older and has U.S. citizenship.
– Eligible for financial sponsorship.
– Eligible for financial sponsorship.
Sponsors:
– Are related by sibling blood to the guarantor.
– No crime and disease prohibited from entering the United States.
